If you arent aware of it yet, blogging has become a definitive aspect of todays online experience, and it seems that more and more people are taking up this pursuit. You probably know one or two people who are knee deep into blogging right now, and you may even be a regular blogger yourself. Blogging is truly an immensely popular pursuit youd better believe it, and that popularity is expected to grow even more exponentially over the next few years.
So, what is this "blogging" all about, and what is the secret to its huge popularity? And by extension, what is the deeper significance of blogging as it relates to you as an entrepreneur, a professional, or simply an ordinary everyday person?
All those questions can perhaps be partially answered by the realization that people have a fundamental need to interact with other people, in as many different ways as possible. The Internet has opened up so many avenues for ideas exchange and even simply basic communication that our list of contacts grows at an exponential rate. It is this unquenchable thirst for touching base with people that has ensured the steady growth and popularity of blogging.
Of course, there are other ways to reach out to other people online, and avenues such as email and message boards remain in widespread use. Nevertheless, few can compare to blogging in terms of immediacy and free flowing discourse. Instant messaging offers an even more instantaneous means of communication to be sure, but it isnt really ideally suited to lengthy discourse.
It is interesting to note that blogging started out as pretty much an online version of a diary, in which the writer could share his or her thoughts to a select group of people. Other uses were found for blogs in the academe and corporate setting, where they were used as simple announcement pages. The flow of communication back then was therefore limited towards the audience. With more readers catching on to the interactive elements of blogging however this exchange became quite a bit more democratic. This gave rise to the present incarnation of the blog as a place wherein everyone has a voice.
Blogging has already been a familiar online facet for many years, and we have still yet to see beyond the curve. Going from initial indications alone, blogging is certain to have a lasting impact, the significance of which we have yet to see.
