One of the most common concerns of most bloggers is answering the question "What benefits will I gain when I submit my blog to blog directories?" Some bloggers will actually submit their blogs to dozens of directories or even more, while others feel that this wouldnt be of much use. Based on my impressions of most web experts opinions however, I have realized favorable results when I submit my blog to a small number of blog directories soon after starting it up.
What I quickly learned when I submit my blog to blog directories was that I was able to garner backlinks in a fairly short time. This has allowed my websites to be found more easily by the major search engines, which then indexed my sites and caused them to rank higher in search results.
Search engines particularly value these links. All things being equal, search engines place a higher value on pages that have more links, since this is a sign of a worthy blog. it was this realization that allowed me to get favorable results after I submit my blog to a few directories. I also learned that it wasnt actually the directory list that gave me more hits on my site.
There remains some contention with regard to how many directories is the right number to submit my blog to. Some people feel that I should submit my blog to as many as hundreds of blog directories, while others feel that this would be pointless.
Many web experts agree that as little as 5 to 10 blog directories may actually be more than enough. While most search engines do favor sites with more links, they do not usually consider links originating from a blog directory as important as links that come from actual blog posts or articles.
My primary concern at this point was how to find blog directories that I could submit my blog to. A simple online search for "blog directory" will actually get you hundreds of potential directories to check out. In most cases, the blog directories that can be the most advantageous to you will appear on the top of the page.
I have often run into blog directories that require me to post backlinks or impose certain other requirements. I thought that I would be better off skipping those, as there are certainly many other directories that allow me to submit my blog without complicating matters too much.
Most blog directories let you go through the submission process fairly quickly, while others may require a lot more time. I felt that it would be best to skip the ones that take longer, and instead spend a few minutes in order to submit my blog only to a few blog directories. I was then able to focus on producing better content that resulted in more links.
