What is a blog, anyway? It used to be short for "web log," but as the term gains popularity, it seems to take on its own meaning. Now, blogs are used for journals, creative writing portfolios, entertainment reviews, keeping in touch, search engine optimization, and more. When you press "submit blog," what are you really doing?
Since blogs are all over the Internet, used for all sorts of purposes, it depends on your purpose and what online source you are using. Some blogs are private. Those are the ones used for personal journaling, review writing, and record keeping. If you were to search for a person's name that appeared in that blog, it probably would not show up in your search results.
Some blogs are more public, and the entries in them will show up in search engines. These include newspaper articles, blogs with a lot of followers, and other types of blogs that people choose to make public, sometimes for purposes of garnering a following, getting the word out, or keeping a predetermined audience informed.
When you submit blog entries, there is no guaranteeing that they will stay within the limits you imagine, so if you want to stay private, consider using something other than a blog. But depending on the purpose of your blog, maybe you do want a lot of hits. There are plenty of web indexes that will direct people to your site, if you are looking to optimize your visibility online. To do that, you will have to find how to submit blog information on their website.
Some new search engines, too, online are designed specifically to direct you to blogs, so they can be a great resource if you want more readers. Often, you have to include yours under a "Submit blog" tab in order to be in the index of searches. So post away, but remember that when you click "submit blog," you are sending your thoughts out into cyberspace.
