I have helped move friends a thousand times, and I cannot tell you how I wished there was something like pods storage back then. Most of those moves were in college or graduate school when we were poor students. The moves usually involved beer, pizza and a U Haul truck. We usually had to help said friend pack and convince them to throw various things away that just would not fit in the truck. We would load everything in the truck, then have to drive that thing down the road. It continues to amaze me that a person who has a normal non commercial drivers license is allowed to rent one of these big trucks and drive it through public streets. It is when you turn the first corner in that truck and hear everything crashing down in the back, that you realize you should have left it to the professionals. Who knew you should not just put the TV on a box stacked high on that overstuffed chair? If only there was some kind of pods storage, so you would not have to worry about driving all this stuff around and breaking it.
I now pay professional people to move me, which makes my friends and me very happy. It is expensive, though, and you have to have your act together. You can save some money by having everything packed when the movers get there, or pay more and have them do everything. It is a whirlwind of chaos, no matter what you choose. If you decide to pack everything yourself, the movers will arrive and start packing anything they see. After one of my moves, I opened a box to find a plastic trash can (wrapped in paper) that had trash still inside it. Most movers get paid for every bit of packing material they use, as well as the time it takes to do everything. Again, I wish I would have known about pods storage as an option.
I have seen more and more of these pods storage things on the streets of the city.I guessed it was mainly students who did not want to pimp out their friends services to help them drive a truck around. When some friends of ours decided to move to California, we learned all about pods storage. In exchange for dinner and wine, we graced them with our packing skills for an entire afternoon. We took most of the boxes down the stairwell to the pods storage box parked out on the street. Our friends were able to take things downstairs and into the unit at their leisure, while the thing was parked there for a week. It had a huge system of locks and was very sturdy. No one could get into the thing unless he had a forklift and just wanted to take the whole thing. Whatever was too heavy or cumbersome to take care of ourselves, was moved into the pods storage cube by some people they hired. The pods storage company put the unit on a truck and away it went to the West Coast. Our friends did not have to drive a truck or have a rushed day of movers at their apartment. See, pods storage is for grown ups too. You might still have to spring for beer for your friends. Try this Self-storage .
