Another category you can take your pick from is cute animal, like kitty cat. You again have to be sensitive with your choice. A gerbil may be cute for you but she will probably find it offensive if you call her anything from the rat family.
When you have finally chosen the right cute name for your girlfriend, you might also want to add something like, my little or silly, before the name to make it sound more endearing. Later in your relationship, you will see that the cute name will always help you out when you want to make her feel more special or when you simply want to apologize for something.
